Old Fashioned Salmon Patties Recipe: Easy & Delicious Classic Dish

  • Author: Tasty’s Recipe

Description

Old Fashioned Salmon Patties are a quick and delicious meal made from canned salmon, breadcrumbs, and a few basic ingredients. Shaped into crispy, golden patties, they make a perfect lunch or dinner option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can of pink or red salmon (drained and flaked)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (or more if needed)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • A few tablespoons of oil for frying
  • Optional: Fresh herbs like dill or parsley for added flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare the Salmon:
    • Open the can of salmon and drain the liquid. Remove any bones and skin, then flake the salmon with a fork into a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix the Ingredients:
    • Add the egg, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, salt, and pepper to the flaked salmon. You can also add fresh herbs like dill or parsley for extra flavor.
    • Mix the ingredients until well combined. If the mixture feels too wet, add more breadcrumbs until you reach a thick, sticky consistency.
  • Shape the Patties:
    • Take portions of the mixture and shape them into small patties using your hands. The size can vary depending on your preference, but aim for patties about 2-3 inches in diameter.
  • Heat the Pan:
    • Heat a few tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Wait for the oil to get hot before placing the patties in the pan.
  • Fry the Patties:
    • Gently place the patties in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each side for about 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
    • After frying, transfer the patties to a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the salmon patties immediately while they’re hot. You can enjoy them on their own, or with a side of mashed potatoes, salad, or even as a filling for sandwiches.
